The spectacular and imposing medieval castle at Falaise. This was the birthplace of William the Conqueror, although the present fortifications are beyond his time. Falaise was seriously damaged during Battle of Normandy in late 1944, and has many attractions in addition to the castle. Well worth a visit!

There are many cycling routes In Normandy, and local Tourist information offices provide maps of routes for free. The cottage is accessible from the ferry at Caen, with a lovely cycle route through the regional nature park and via Domfront, and also from Cherbourg (click on links below).

Further afield

Our cottage is close to many places of historic interest such as Mont St Michel, WWII battlefields and D-Day beaches.

Mont Saint Michel

Follow in the footsteps of Kings and visit this staggering location which has long inspired awe and the imagination. The story of how the mount turned into a great place of Christian pilgrimage is colourful. Having a church built on top of the island just out to sea. Well protected and a sight you must see.
